Gulf Coast finishes second at MACJC event

Mississippi Gulf Coast dug itself a hole for the second straight week in an MACJC golf event, but this time the Bulldogs couldn't escape.

Meridian won the second state event of the year by five shots over Gulf Coast, which shaved two shots off its deficit to finish at 11-under for the tournament.

The Bulldogs' Colin Troxler finished second at 10-under, three behind medalist Lance Strickland from Meridian. George Kawell finished fifth at 4-under to also make the All-Tournament team.

Phillip Hickam (1-over) finished 11th, with Jonathon Newman (2-over) tied for 12th.

Gulf Coast returns to action a Wolf Hollow Golf Course in Wesson for the third MACJC event on Oct. 3-4.
