Motter, Bulldogs lead tournament after 1st round
No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast's Grant Motter is tied for first after the first round of the Elizabeth Kling Memorial Invitational, helping lead the Bulldogs to a first-place tie in the team standings.
Gulf Coast shot a 12-over 300 on a tough Rock Creek Golf Course made tougher by windy conditions, putting the team in a tie with NCAA Division III Spring Hill. Wallace State and Central Alabama are tied for third, four shots back in Fairhope, Ala.
Motter shot 1-under 71, tying with Wallace State's Walker Gordon.
Gulf Coast's Jonathon Newman shot a 74, with Colin Troxler three more shots back. George Kawell shot 78.
The tournament concludes Sunday.
