National champs release fall schedule

PERKINSTON — Coach Brad Thornton's two-time defending national champion Mississippi Gulf Coast golf team will hit its first competitive tee shots in September.

The Bulldogs will travel back to Plymouth, Ind., for the NJCAA Tournament Preview on Sept. 2-3. That's the site where they won the NJCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship back in May, and they'll be playing some of those same top teams.

They'll play in the three-day Folds of Honor Challenge later in the month in Allendale, Mich. That field includes an array of NCAA teams, and usually a couple of junior college squads.

MACCC play opens on Sept. 22 with the Tiger Invitational, hosted by Northeast Mississippi, in Shiloh. The Bulldogs also play conference events in October and November, sandwiched around the Charles Cooper Classic at Windance County Club in Gulfport on Oct. 27-28. It's a non-conference event with teams from the South and Midwest usually in attendance.

The spring schedule, which will include the Tommy Snell Invitational, will be released later in the fall.
