Hoefer, Owensby named PING All-South Region

PLYMOUTH, Ind. — No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast has a pair of golfers on the PING All-South Region team, one of the awards announced during the tournament-opening banquet at the NJCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship.

Paul Hoefer and Jayden Owensby earned spots on the 10-person squad and are now eligible for PING All-American selection.

Hoefer, a freshman from Heidleberg, Germany, is ranked 10th in the Clippd National Collegiate Golf Rankings. He won the Jim Redgate Invitational and has six top-three finishes, plus two more in the top-10. His 73.31 stroke average is in the top-20 lowest in school history.

Owensby, a freshman from Hernando, is sixth in the national rankings. He's got a 72.77 scoring average, which is 14th-lowest in school history. Owensby tied for medalist at the NJCAA Gulf South District Championship and lost a playoff at the Lou Hart Invitational. He's got three top-three finishes and eight total top-10s.

The awards were presented by the Golf Coaches Association of America. The All-American team, previously announced at the banquet, is now being finalized after the conclusion of this event.

Gulf Coast takes the course bright and early Tuesday for the first round of the national tournament at Swan Lake Golf Resort. The Bulldogs' first tee time is at 7:18 a.m. ET.
