Mississippi Gulf Coast tipped of the women's basketball season with a 72-63 victory over Southwest Tennessee on Friday in Baton Rouge.
Kailin Young led Gulf Coast with 17 points.
"Kailin Young came off the bench and really played well offensively," Gulf Coast coach Jason Conner said. "I thought we played well. We started the ballgame well defensively, but we didn't really find our offense until the second half."
The teams met in the Lady Bears Classic, hosted by Baton Rouge Community College. The Lady Bulldogs play the host school Saturday at 4 p.m.
Markeisha Watson added 15 points, with Jasmine Nettles and Courtney White chipping in 10 each.
Gulf Coast broke open a 28-28 halftime tie.
"I'm proud of the kids the way they finished this one out," said Conner.
