Gulf Coast blows out Lady Wildcats

PERKINSTON – Mississippi Gulf Coast tipped off its home schedule in style Monday night, blowing out Bishop State 72-29 at Weathers/Wentzell Center.

"I like for our offense to get gradually better during the game," Conner said. "We were able to do that tonight."

Jasmine Nettles led Gulf Coast (2-1) with 13 points and eight rebounds. Markeisha Watson had 12 points.

Seven Lady Bulldogs had seven points or more in a balanced effort.

Bishop State (0-2) made just four field goals in the first half, all 3-pointers. The Lady Wildcats missed all four free throws they shot.

Chrisquisa Matthews led the Lady Wildcats with nine points.

The Lady Bulldogs led 16-6 after the first quarter, then blew things open with a 9-0 run to start the second quarter, slowly extending their lead throughout the game.

Gulf Coast made 13 of 20 free-throw attempts.

The Lady Bulldogs return to action Monday when Baton Rouge visits Perkinston. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.

The teams have played once already this season, with Gulf Coast squandering a 12-point halftime lead to lose 82-77 in overtime.
