Nettles’ buzzer-beater lifts Gulf Coast past Meridian
Mississippi Gulf Coast's Jasmine Nettles hit a shot at the buzzer to lift the Lady Bulldogs to a 60-58 victory at Meridian on Monday.
"We went to a little delayed four corners and held it for the last shot," Gulf Coast coach Jason Conner said. "We got Jasmine the layup. That was good. That showed a little patience and discipline late."
Markeisha Watson led a balanced Gulf Coast attack with nine points. Nettles added eight points.
Gulf Coast evened its MACJC South Division record after two games and is 5-2 overall.
Meridian falls to 1-8, 0-2.
Gulf Coast trailed 17-14 after the first quarter, but turned things around before halftime.
"We had a better second quarter," Conner said. "We started pressing."
The Lady Bulldogs outscored Meridian 20-7 in the frame, taking a 10-point lead to the locker room.
The Lady Eagles chipped back into the lead, setting up the dramatic finish.
Shaniqua Tobias and Ka'Nosha Fairley had seven points for Gulf Coast, with Kamisha Tarvin, Tiana Dampeer and Courtney White adding six each.
Andriel Moss led Meridian with 24 points, with Kashari Gordon chipping in 13.
The Lady Bulldogs play at Delgado on Wednesday, with tipoff scheduled for 5 p.m.
