Lady Bulldogs head to New Orleans
Mississippi Gulf Coast went to a spread offense in a tie game against Meridian on Monday night. The Lady Bulldogs created a buzzer-beating layup by Jasmine Nettles.
Brilliant design or outstanding improvisation?
"We weren't in anything," Nettles said. "We came up with it ourselves."
Her bucket gave the Lady Bulldogs a 60-58 victory and some momentum headed into Wednesday's game at Delgado. Tipoff is at 5 p.m.
Gulf Coast heads into the contest at 5-2, with Delgado struggling to a 3-8 mark.
One area Gulf Coast struggled in at Meridian was on the glass, and the Lady Bulldogs can't afford a similar effort in New Orleans.
"We've got to play better than we did last night to beat them down there," Gulf Coast coach Jason Conner said. "They're bigger than that bunch in Meridian."
Conner said his team was as healthy as it's been all season, with all players participating in practice together for the first time. That may help the team build on that momentum.
"I think we're playing wonderful," Nettles said. "We've have spurts here and there, but I think we'll put it all together in the long run."
Gulf Coast has one more game before its Christmas break, traveling to LSU-Eunice on Saturday. Tipoff is at 4 p.m.
