Baseball splits opening doubleheader with Faulkner State

PERKINSTON---Jacob Swiney scored the game winning run on a passed ball as Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College took game two 5-4 to earn a doubleheader split with Faulkner State Wednesday. The Bulldogs (1-1) opened the 2014 season with a 7-5 loss in game one.

In the first outing of the season, the Bulldog committed three errors and could only manage six hits against the Sun Chiefs. Swiney had two hits and 2 RBI while Ryne Long added two hits. Kolby Ross and Cam Cochran (0-1) combined on the mound to strike out six.

Gulf Coast used a 2-run homer by Tyler Quave and two more hits from Swiney to provide the offensive attack while pitchers Ryan Henry, Kyle Cumlander, and Ryne Long (1-0, six strikeouts) all put in solid work for Gulf Coast.

Both games were played in windy, raw ocnditions at Curly Farris Field in Perkinston.
