Bulldogs use late inning heroics to sweep Illinois Central

PERKINSTON---Two walk-off RBI hits helped Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College sweep visitng Illinois Central 8-7 and 3-2 Friday and give the Bulldogs a five-game winning streak.

Gulf Coast (9-6) jumped out to a 7-0 lead in game one behind a two run homer by Tyler Quave, a couple of two-run doubles by James Land, a two run homer by Hunter Brannan, and a solo homer by Jacob Swiney. Brannan had three hits along with Richie Clark while Land, Quave, and Garrett Odom each had two hits. After Illinois Central rallied with seven runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game, Odom's RBI single brought home Brannan with the game winner in the bottom of the inning. Pitcher Ryne Long started the game and went five innings and struck out seven while the Bulldog pitching staff combined to strike out 14.

In game two, starting pitcher Cam Cochran (2-2) struck out 14 and gave up no earned runs in a complete game victory. Hunter Black had two hits at the plate while Winston Wilson's RBI double in the bottom of the seventh broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Bulldogs their second straight doubleheader sweep.

The Bulldogs begin MACJC South Division play Mar. 12 at home against East Central.
