MGCCC baseball headed in new direction

PERKINSTON---After five seasons at the helm, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College head baseball coach Gary Rath and the college have mutually agreed to part ways, with Rath resigning his position. The announcement came this week after the Long Beach native met with college administrators.

"It's been a great run at Gulf Coast," said Rath. "I appreciate all the support from fans and the college, and I also appreciate the effort from my players."

Rath came to Gulf Coast as an assistant in 2009 and became head baseball coach in 2010. During that time his teams won 126 games and went to the post season four straight times (2010-2013) with the 2012 team coming in second at the MACJC Tournament. Fifty-Four players went on to four-year college's during Rath's tenure with 32 of those signing with Division-I schools.  Former Bulldog Trey Porter went on to play for Mississippi State in the 2013 College World Series while former Bulldog and current Tennessee Tech standout Daniel Miles is on the 2014 Golden Spikes Award Watch List, an honor given to the Nation's top amateur baseball player.

"We mutually agreed that this was the best course of action," said Dr. Ladd Taylor, Gulf Coast Dean of Athletics and Perkinston Campus interim vice president. "We wish Coach Rath all the best in his future endeavors."  Taylor also said the college will begin the search for a new head baseball coach immediately.
