East Central sweeps Bulldogs in South Division opener
PERKINSTON---East Central spoiled the MACJC South Division opening doubleheader for Gulf Coast by sweeping the twinbill 11-7 and 3-1 Wednesday.
In game one, the Bulldogs (9-8, 0-2) committed five errors while the visiting Warriors racked up 15 hits. A solo homerun by Winston Wilson in the bottom of the 5th tied the game at 7 but East Central rallied with four unanswered runs down the stretch to take the win. Wilson also doubled and drove in two for Gulf Coast at the plate while James Land and Richie Clark also had two hits apiece. Ryne Long (0-1) started the game on the mound for the Bulldogs and suffered the defeat.
Game two was a pitcher's duel between starters Ty Hendrix and Kyle Cumlander. Hendrix went six and 2/3 innings for East Central and gave up no earned runs and struck nine. Meanwhile Cumlander (2-2) was the tough luck loser, going seven innings and giving up three runs on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Adam Cagnina went 3-for-3 for the Bulldogs while Richie Clark had two more hits in the nightcap.
The Bulldogs travel to Southwest for another South Division doubleheader Saturday.
