No. 4 Bulldogs ready for a White Out

PERKINSTON — No. 4 Mississippi Gulf Coast has a White Out scheduled Thursday when East Central visits A.L. May Memorial Stadium for Miiltary + First Responders Night.

The Bulldogs lost to the Warriors last year for the first time since 2016, but they haven't spent much time worrying about revenge as a motivation. Junior college roster turnover makes that harder to gin up.

"Every team is so different, every year is so different, I'm not sure that it matters," Gulf Coast coach Jack Wright said. "We just try to do the very best that we can to win the next game."

Kickoff on Ole Miss Night is scheduled for 7 p.m. Military members, veterans and first responders will be admitted for free by showing their ID. Buy your tickets ahead of time to save money. It costs $10 for adults or $7 for youth online, or $15 and $10 at the gate. Tickets are available at http://mgcccbulldogs.com/tickets, and the game will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch.

Gulf Coast (5-0, 3-0 MACCC South) leads the all-time series 58-17-2 and has won 20 of the last 22 meetings between the schools. East Central (1-4, 1-1) puts one word in the mind of Wright: multiple.

He said the Warriors use multiple schemes on both sides of the ball, and the defense reacts to the ball very well. Wide receiver Eelijah Singleton leads the MACCC in receptions with 36 and is third in yards (404).

"He's dangerous," Wright said. "You've got to know where he is at all the time. They move him around, and they run every route on the route tree with him. Just like the rest of their team, they look for little ways to exploit what you're doing, and they're really good at it."

The whole MACCC had an open date last week, and Wright gave the players and coaches some extra time off to give them a mental break. They practiced without pads several times to help cut down on wear and tear.

Like most teams halfway through the regular season, Gulf Coast has some nicked-up players.

"Nate (Snider), down to the training room, did a great job of spending some extra time with our injured guys," Wright said. "The guys are a little banged up. We had some guys take some fewer reps last week. We were trying to be really intelligent with our time off."

The Regulators will be trying to slow down the East Central offense, and one tool in their box made a short trip to Perkinston. Gulfport High's Damon Felder has made the most of that commute.

"We're very proud that he came to Gulf Coast," Wright said. "He's played a lot here in two years. He's played a lot of different positions, which is a credit to him. He's played some safety; he's played some corner. At that safety position, he's been rolled into the box, like a linebacker. He's very physical. He's just kind of a Swiss army knife in the secondary. He's got a bunch of offers right now, and I'm really proud of the productivity and the improvement that he's shown over two years."
