3 Bulldogs earn All-Region 23 slots
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast put three players on the All-NJCAA Region 23 Team, which was released Wednesday.
The awards were voted on by the MACCC coaches, taking players from the all-division first teams. Omarion Bender, Willie Breland and Tyler Henderson earned their spots while leading the Bulldogs to the conference championship game.
Bender, a sophomore offensive tackle from Soso, helped pave the way for the top offense in the nation. The Bulldogs racked up a national-best 466.1 yards per game, and they piled up 37.0 points per game, fourth-most.
Breland, a sophomore defensive back from Wiggins, had 35 tackles, including two for loss and a sack. He also had one interception, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble.
Henderson, a sophomore wide receiver from Vicksburg, led the NJCAA in receptions (67), yards per game (109.3) and touchdowns (12).
The three players are now eligible for selection to the NJCAA All-American squad.
