Pugliese, Baronich grab 3 points in loss
PERKINSTON — No. 15 Mississippi Gulf Coast took its first MACCC loss of the women's tennis season Tuesday, falling 6-3 to No. 18 Copiah-Lincoln at the MGCCC Tennis Complex.
"We had chances to win this match, overall as a team, and we didn't quite take advantage of those," Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn said. "I don't think we had a really good day mentally or just on the court. That's okay, because we're gonna improve him and learn from it. We'll be a different team down the road."
Gulf Coast is 1-2 overall, 1-1 MACCC. Co-Lin is 3-0, 2-0.
Pia Pugliese (Fr., San Juan, Argentina/Colegio Central Universitario Mariano Moreno) and Paige Baronich (Fr., St. Martin/St. Martin) picked up all three points for the Bulldogs. They teamed up to win No. 2 doubles easily, posting an 8-4 victory.
Pugliese beat her No. 3 singles opponent 6-0, 6-2, and Baronich was even more dominant. She dropped only one game in a straight-sets victory.
Gulf Coast finishes a busy week Friday when Itawamba visits Perk. First serves are set for 2 p.m.
