No. 15 Women’s Tennis gets win in Alabama

No. 15 Gulf Coast extended its winning streak to five to close out the regular season Friday by beating No. 20 Bevill State.

The Bulldogs won 5-4 over the Bears in Jasper, Ala.

"It means a ton," Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn said. "These girls have gotten a lot better throughout the season. Finishing with a good conference win yesterday, and then closing out the regular season with a good win today over a tough team speaks volumes for how hard they've worked this season."

Isona Arnaus (So., Barcelona, Spain/Centre Lopez Vicuna) and Victoria Ros Fabuel (Fr., Valencia, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon Hermanos Maristas) won their No. 1 doubles match easily, as did Pia Pugliese (Fr., San Juan, Argentina/Colegio Central Universitario Mariano Moreno) and Paige Baronich (Fr., St. Martin/St. Martin) at No. 2. That gave Gulf Coast the edge headed to singles.

Pugliese and Ros Fabuel won their singles matches easily, and Baronich won a battle at No. 4. She bounced back from dropping the first set to win 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Gulf Coast opens play in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament on April 9. The Bulldogs will be the third seed.
