Women’s Tennis opens postseason Thursday
PERKINSTON — The postseason for the Mississippi Gulf Coast women's tennis team begins Thursday in Ellisville.
The third-seeded Bulldogs play sixth-seeded East Central in an NJCAA Region 23 Tournament quarterfinal match scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Gulf Coast is ranked 15th in the latest ITA rankings, with ECCC 24th.
The winner of that match will play the winner of the 1 p.m. showdown between No. 2 Copiah-Lincoln and No. 7 Southwest Mississippi. The semifinal is scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m.
The quarterfinal round starts Thursday at 8:30 a.m. when top-seed Jones plays eight-seed Meridian, followed by fourth-seed Northwest Mississippi going against No. 5 Hinds.
All eight teams appear in the ITA rankings. In addition to Gulf Coast and East Central, Jones is seventh, Co-Lin is 14th, Hinds 16th, Northwest 19th, Southwest 21st and Meridian 23rd.
