Arnaus, Pugliese shine Saturday
Isona Arnaus picked up two points against fourth-ranked Collin County, and Pia Pugliese got one against No. 2 Cowley County on the third day of the Tyler Invitational.
Cowley County beat the Bulldogs 8-1, and Collin County won 7-2, but there were good results in both matches.
Pugliese beat No. 32 Chiho Takada from Cowley 6-4, 6-4 for the Bulldogs' only point in that match. She beat 23rd-ranked Sherin Sheerle from Tyler on Friday.
The freshman from San Juan, Argentina, also pushed ninth-ranked Marie-Alix Urcun from Collin to a third set.
Arnaus, a sophomore from Barcelona, Spain, teamed with Victoria Ros Fabuel (Fr., Valencia, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon Hermanos Maristas) to beat Mii Naito and Nao Watanabe from Collin 8-5. Naito is ranked 26th in singles, and Watanabe is 13th. Watanabe is also part of the 15th-ranked doubles team.
Arnaus then beat Marqaylar Tere 2-6, 7-6, 10-5 in No. 1 singles.
Gulf Coast closes out its Texas trip Sunday with a 9:30 a.m. match against Jacksonville.
