Williams’ double-double, Jolley’s offense boost MGCCC
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast used a 14-point run spread across the third and fourth quarters to pull away from Delgado on Saturday at the Weathers/Wentzell Center.
The Lady Bulldogs opened the spring schedule with 70-48 win to avenge a disappointing loss to end the fall semester.
"Everybody got to play, which we needed badly," Gulf Coast coach Jason Conner said. "They were hot early. We needed to pick our intensity up defensively."
Keiara Williams (6-1, Fr, New Orleans/Warren Easton) and Jordana Jolley (5-7, Fr, Brandon/Northwest Rankin) had 13 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Deona Morgan (5-7, Fr, Ocean Springs/St. Martin) added 10.
Williams had a double-double on the night, picking up 10 rebounds.
Conner was hoping Jolley would provide an offensive boost.
"She did. That's' going to help her confidence," he said. "I'm pleased."
Williams had five of her points during the 14-0 run that blew open the game.
Gulf Coast improves to 5-4, while Delgado falls to 1-10.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action Monday when LSU-Eunice visits Perkinston. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
