Lady Bulldogs stage comeback to beat Bishop State

Mississippi Gulf Coast won its second straight game by coming back from a 12-point halftime deficit to defeat Bishop State 59-57 Monday night.
"We came back out, got in our zone press," Lady Bulldogs coach Jason Conner said. "Alexis Stewart really, really gave us a shot in the arm. She gave us a huge spark."
Shaniqua Tobias (5-6, So, New Orleans/Warren Easton) had 13 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs (2-1), and Stewart (5-10, Fr, Tchula/Holmes County Central) and Keiara Williams (6-1, Fr, New Orleans/Warren Easton) chipped in 12 each.
Williams also tied for the team-high in rebounds with nine along with Eanna Sims (5-11, Fr, Jackson/Forest Hill). Deona Morgan (5-7, Fr, Ocean Springs/St. Martin) and Whitney Williams (5-5, So, Ocean Springs/St. Martin) had 3 assists, with Tobias also pilfering five steals.
Gulf Coast trailed 33-21 at half but came out in a 2-2-1 press and trimmed the deficit to five points by the end of the third quarter.
Conner also credited MiMi Bishop (6-0, Fr, /Madison Central) for a big shot down the stretch for the second straight game.
Gulf Coast returns to action in its home opener on Nov. 17. They Lady Bulldogs play the same Bishop State squad at the Weathers/Wentzell Center at 5:30 p.m.
