Keiara Williams’ 16 points leads Lady Bulldogs
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast jumped on Bishop State early and again late, cruising to a 74-49 victory at the Weathers/Wentzell Center.
Keiara Williams (6-1, Fr, New Orleans/Warren Easton) scored 16 points and had nine rebounds lead the Lady Bulldogs (3-1).
"I'm thankful for the W. We need to win them at home," Gulf Coast coach Jason Conner said. "You want to execute better and be more efficient. I want us to improve our play a little bit, and we've got to defend better longer."
Bishop State falls to 1-5.
Gulf Coast ripped off a 14-point run in the first quarter, then a 22-3 run to start the fourth.
Williams was 8-for-10 from the field.
"I think we played at a good pace," she said. "We slowed it down, and ran our offense."
She was aided by an 11-point night by Eanna Sims (5-11, Fr, Jackson/Forest Hill) and a stellar 13-assist performance by Whitney Williams (5-5, So, Ocean Springs/St. Martin).
"She played well," Conner said. "I just expect that from her. Wow. I didn't realize it was that many."
Fredricka Dortch (6-3, Fr, Lucedale/George County) had seven points and eight rebounds.
Gulf Coast returns to action Saturday when the Lady Bulldogs travel to LSU-Eunice. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
