MGCCC faces showdown with archrival PRCC
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast not only faces its archrival Thursday at the Weathers/Wentzell Center. The Lady Bulldogs face a Pearl River team that will show them a lot of different looks.
"They're going to play about four different zones, so we had to prepare for that," Gulf Coast coach Jason Conner said. "They're also going to have a mighty good point guard who's averaging 20 points."
Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m. The game will be streamed online. There is a link on the homepage at mgcccbulldogs.com or go to https://livestream.com/bulldoglive.
The Lady Bulldogs (6-8, 0-5 MACJC South) worked this week on ways to attack the various zones, while also having to be ready for man-to-man. The Lady Wildcats (8-4, 1-3) may throw matchup zones and traps at Gulf Coast, as well.
The point guard to watch is Rehema Franklin, who is averaging 19.5 points and 3.4 steals per game.
Gulf Coast is getting strong play from Eanna Sims (5-11, Fr, Jackson/Forest Hill), who is averaging 12.4 points and 7.0 rebounds over the last five games.
"It's a rivalry game, and they're certainly going to be up," Conner said. "I think our bunch will be. We've got to compete for 40 minutes, and we can't keep shooting ourselves in the foot."
