Baseball drops two on the road

Mississippi Gulf Coast lost twice at Northeast Mississippi on Saturday, falling 6-5 and 10-3 in Booneville.

The Bulldogs (23-18, 8-12 MACCC) played a seesaw Game 1, taking a 2-1 lead in the second with an RBI single from Landen Wallace (So., Gulfport/West Harrison) and a sacrifice fly by Jordan Davis (So., Neshoba/Neshoba Central).

The Bulldogs tied the game at 3 in the fourth when Collin Smith (Fr., McComb/Parklane Academy) homered. Anthony Tanner (Fr., Hurley/East Central) hit a sac fly in the fifth to make it 4-4.

Tanner singled in the seventh for a 5-4 lead, but the Tigers (23-20, 10-8) scored twice in the bottom of the inning and closed out the game.

Smith, Tanner and Garrett Gardner (Fr., Madison/Madison-Ridgeland Academy) had two hits each. Gardner doubled.

In the second game, Gulf Coast fell behind 6-0 and got as close as 7-3. Gardner had two hits, including another double.
