Bulldogs beat Coyotes for 2nd time
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast completed a season sweep of Coastal Alabama-South on Monday night, beating the Coyotes 62-53 at Dantzler Arena.
Keela Bryan (So., Brunswick, Ga./Camden County) led the Bulldogs with 18 points.
"The biggest thing that we've been talking about is being violent," Gulf Coast coach Hope Adams said. "I think with her going downhill, she's very dangerous. Getting downhill and then making the right plays with the kickouts or finishing around the rim. I think I think she did that tonight."
The Bulldogs improved to 5-3 and are the only team to have beaten Coastal Alabama-South, which is 6-2.
Taelar Felton (So., Clinton/Clinton) had 13 points, and Katelyn Brinkley (So., Ridgeland/Ridgeland) made all 10 free-throw attempts and finished with 12.
The Bulldogs expanded a three-point lead after 10 minutes by opening the second quarter on a 15-3 run to go up 33-18. They'd lead by as many as 16 before the break.
The Coyotes got within three points early in the fourth quarter, but Gulf Coast pushed it back to a 53-41 after a 9-0 run, which included two buckets by Bryan.
"Adding back key pieces off the injury list has definitely helped us," Adams said. "As time goes on, we want to build that chemistry. We have yet to have our full team throughout the last eight games. We've really been honing in on some things offensively, making sure we put people in the right position. But I think the main thing is that the healthier we get, the better we're going to get as time goes on."
Gulf Coast played its final home game of the calendar year. The Bulldogs will close out 2025 on Friday with a trip to Utica to play Hinds. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. The game will be streamed at https://hindsccsports.net/channel-1/.
