Bulldogs win big in Utica
Mississippi Gulf Coast had four players in double-digits as the Bulldogs won for the fourth time in five games Friday afternoon, beating Hind 78-44 in Utica.
Katelyn Brinkley (So., Ridgeland/Ridgeland) led Gulf Coast with 17 points in the final game of 2025 for the Bulldogs.
"We were able to tweak some things with our defense to generate some steals," Gulf Coast coach Hope Adams said. "We got some transition buckets off of steals. We had two days to prepare and threw a different full-court press, and then dropped back into a zone out there. It was very effective for us."
Taelar Felton (So., Clinton/Clinton) had 14 points, Ariana Peagler (So., Hoover, Ala./Hoover) added 12 and Keela Bryan (So., Brunswick, Ga./Camden County) chipped in 11.
Gulf Coast (6-3) has won 13 straight against Hinds (2-7). The Bulldogs scored 14 of the game's first 15 points to take charge, but a last-minute flurry by Hinds made it 15-11 after the first quarter.
They led by 18 at halftime and kept pulling away in the second half.
"We were able to generate a lot of points," Adams said. "We got a lot of points off the bench, as well, and I was proud of them with us being able to go into this break on a good note."
Gulf Coast, which has won 13 straight against Hinds, will be back in action in 2026 with the MACCC opener against Meridian on Jan. 12. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
