Bulldogs fall at Jones
Mississippi Gulf Coast got off to a strong start in its first MACCC volleyball match Wednesday in Ellisville, but the Bulldogs couldn't hold a first-set lead and lost to Jones.
The Bobcats won 25-23, 25-16, 25-18.
It was the first loss of the season for Gulf Coast, which is now 2-1. Jones, the defending Region 23 champs, is 2-0.
Malorie Gaughf (Fr., Gulfport/Harrison Central) led the Bulldogs with eight kills, followed by Reese Sorrells with seven. Sorrells also had three blocks. Sydney Tague (Fr., Olive Branch/DeSoto Central) and Lila Turner (Fr., Kiln/Hancock) had 10 assists each.
Cadie Jo Byrd (Fr., New Albany/Ingomar) had 14 digs to go with three kills, and Cambell Herrington (Fr., Brandon/Brandon) had 11 digs.
Gulf Coast will play three matches over two days at the Southwest Mississippi Invitational starting Friday. The Bulldogs play the hosts in Summit at 1 p.m. followed by a match against Bevill State. They close out play Saturday against Jackson State Community College at noon.
