Bulldogs battle MACCC leaders but fall

Mississippi Gulf Coast gave MACCC-leading Northwest Mississippi a challenge Wednesday but couldn't pull out a couple of late-set leads.

The Bulldogs lost 25-23, 25-11, 25-21 in Senatobia. They are now 7-5 overall, 2-5 in conference.

Sydney Tague (Fr., Olive Branch/DeSoto Central) had 15 assists, and Alexa Shinabery (Fr., Marion, Ark./Marion) had nine digs. Malorie Gaughf (Fr., Gulfport/Harrison Central) led with six kills, and Reese Sorrells (Fr., Picayune/Picayune) had two blocks.

The Bulldogs led the first set 19-18 and were tied at 21 before Northwest (15-2, 6-0) closed it out. In the third, Gulf Coast was up 20-17. The Rangers won eight of the final nine points.

Gulf Coast will play a trimatch at Brewton, Ala., on Saturday. Gadsden State will be the first opponent at 1 p.m., with host Coastal Alabama-North immediately following.
