Bulldogs nearly force 5th set vs. NWCC

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast narrowly missed pushing the second-place team in the MACCC to a fifth set Monday, losing 3-1 to Northwest Mississippi.

The Bulldogs got within a point of the Rangers before they scored the final six points to close out a 25-12, 20-25, 25-12, 25-18.

Gulf Coast won a set against Northwest for the first time in its third meeting of the season. The Bulldogs rebounded after a poor third set and nearly came back to win the fourth.

Malorie Gaughf (Fr., Gulfport/Harrison Central) led the Bulldogs with eight kills and two blocks. Dana Cool (Fr., Dothan, Ala./Northside Methodist Academy) and Elle Clayton (Fr., Corinth/Kossuth) also had two blocks.

Sydney Tague (Fr., Olive Branch/DeSoto Central) had 17 assists, and Cambell Herrington (Fr., Brandon/Brandon) had 12 digs. Mariah Hammond (Fr., Slidell, La./Northshore), Cadie Jo Byrd (Fr., New Albany/Ingomar) and Reese Sorrells (Fr., Picayune/Picayune) had six kills. 

Gulf Coast is now 12-10 overall, 4-6 in the MACCC. Northwest is 25-4, 9-2.
