Hudson grabs a point for No. 13 Bulldogs
No. 13 Mississippi Gulf Coast made a long trip Thursday for the start of its Texas adventure, and the Bulldogs lost their opening match to No. 10 Weatherford in the Tyler Invitational.
"We faced a really good team, and those guys came ready to play," Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn said. "I think as the week goes on, we will get better and better, but a big shoutout to Warren Hudson for coming back. He was down 6-2, 5-2, with match points against him and found a way to come back and win. That's a really big win for him."
Gulf Coast is 5-3, while Weatherford improves to 5-1.
Benjamin Asker was up big in his No. 4 singles match against Hudson, but the Bulldog turned the tables. He wound up winning a second-set tiebreaker, then won a 10-point tiebreaker in the third set 10-5.
Gulf Coast will play No. 7 Seward County on Friday at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs have two matches scheduled there Saturday: No. 1 Tyler at noon and No. 6 Collin County at 6 p.m. They'll wrap things up Saturday morning playing Jacksonville at 9 a.m.
