No. 13 Bulldogs sweep No. 17 NWCC

PERKINSTON — Missing half its top four players, No. 13 Mississippi Gulf Coast still swept No. 17 Northwest Mississippi at the MGCCC Tennis Complex on Tuesday.

"Not often can you lose two critical players like that and still come out with a victory the way we did," Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn said. "It just attests how deep this team is and how good these guys are. Everybody on the team shows up ready to play and to practice, ready to get better. They're ready to play all the time, and they showed their toughness overall to get a good win."

Gulf Coast improved to 7-6 overall, 6-1 in MACCC men's tennis action. Northwest is 6-4, 5-2.

Brennan McGlothin (Fr., French Camp/French Camp Academy) stepped up to join Angel Hernandez (Fr., Puebla, Mexico/UPAEP) at No. 1 doubles and won 8-2. Cree Cunningham (Fr., Wiggins/Stone) paired with Connor Hartfield (So., Oak Grove/Oak Grove) at No. 3 to win by the same score.

Warren Hudson (Fr., Ocean Springs/Ocean Springs) was impressive at No. 3 singles, rebounding from a first-set to win 6-3, 10-4. McGlothin beat a Spaniard at No. 4, winning 6-4, 6-3.

"Warren's playing the guy that was playing really good tennis, and he had to find ways to win," Blackburn said. He did, and I'm proud of the way he was able to finish off a good day for him. Brennan playing 1 doubles and 4 singles was really impressive."

Nick Dulaney (So., Long Beach/Long Beach) and Cunningham played on the final two singles courts and closed out the 9-0 win.

The Bulldogs will be back in action at Perk on Friday. Meridian visits, with first serves set for 2 p.m.
