Bako beats No. 5 Van Geel, gets 2 wins
Jan Bako picked up two more wins for No. 13 Mississippi Gulf Coast on Saturday at the Tyler Invitational, but the Bulldogs lost a pair of matches against formidable foes.
No. 1 Tyler and No. 6 Collin County each beat Gulf Coast 8-1 in Tyler, Texas.
Bako, a freshman from Ostrava, Czech Republic, beat Tyler's Luka Van Geel 7-5, 6-4 in their No.2 singles match. Van Geel is ranked fifth in the country. He beat Collin County's Luis Oliva 6-2, 6-2
Warren Hudson (Fr., Ocean Springs/Ocean Springs) continued his impressive performances in Tyler. He forced 17th-ranked Ander Huelamo of Collin County to three sets before falling 6-3, 6-7, 7-5.
The Bulldogs will close out their Texas trip with a 9 a.m. match Sunday against No. 15 Jacksonville.
