Men’s Tennis cranks up postseason on April 16

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast will face Itawamba in its NJCAA Region 23 Men's Tennis Tournament opener on April 16.

The No. 13 Bulldogs, who are the second seed, face No. 23 Itawamba in the quarterfinals, with the match scheduled to start at 1 p.m. The tourney is being played at Ellisville.

The winner of their match will play the winner of the match between third-seeded Copiah-Lincoln and sixth-seeded Meridian, which will be played after the Bulldogs' match. The semifinal is scheduled for 2 p.m. on April 17.

The quarterfinal round starts April 16 at 8:30 a.m. when top-seed Jones plays eight-seed East Central. Fourth-seeded Northwest Mississippi faces fifth-seeded Southwest Mississippi at 10:30 a.m.

Seven of the teams in the field appear in the ITA rankings. Jones is ranked 12th, Copiah-Lincoln 16th, Northwest Mississippi 17th, Meridian 19th and East Central 24th.
