Hernandez named All-MACCC

ELLISVILLE — Angel Hernandez has made an immediate impact at Mississippi Gulf Coast, picking up All-MACCC First Team honors.

The freshman from Puebla, Mexico, was a force in conference play.

"He's meant the world to our team," Gulf Coast coach Sam Blackburn said. "Not only is he just a rock-solid guy, but he's obviously a great player, very deserving of being on the All-Conference team. He's proved himself as probably one of the best players in the country, not only in the conference, so it's well deserved. I'm very proud of him."

Hernandez went 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and teaming with either Ryland Buford or Jan Bako, went 5-3 at No. 1 doubles.

The All-MACCC plaques were handed out at the NJCAA Region 23 Men's Tennis Tournament here. The Bulldogs, who also picked up the plaque for the team's runner-up finish in the MACCC, are the second-seeded team in the draw, and the event ends Saturday.
