Lady Bulldogs look to keep hot start going

Mississippi Gulf Coast swept to six victories in the first tournament the Lady Bulldogs played, but that doesn't mean improvement isn't possible.
They travel to the Chipola College Tournament in Marianna, Fla., on Friday for a pair of games. The Lady Bulldogs will face Georgia Military and Snead State, both Division I teams.
"We had a few little boo-boos, nothing major," Gulf Coast coach Kenneth Long said. "We had a couple of errors on the infield. We bobbled the ball in the outfield that gave them an extra base. Stuff that you have to correct but nothing major."
The Lady Bulldogs are also getting healthier, with three players expected to be available after bouts with injuries. Demi Blaker, Victoria Allen and Camry Griffith add more depth to the squad with their returns.
Gulf Coast swung the bats very well in the first weekend, hitting .307. The top of the order did particularly well, getting 34 hits in the 1-4 spots.
The Lady Bulldogs slugged 10 home runs, nearly a third of the total from 2015. Lexie Mathis had four of those.
She and right-hander Kaitlin Lee won MACJC weekly honors, with Lee going on to win NJCAA Pitcher of the Week after winning all three outings.
