Nora Keehn and Deborah Elmore combined for a one-hitter Friday to kick off a dominant day of pitching at Coahoma for No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The Lady Bulldogs swept to 14-0 and 11-0 wins, both in five innings, with Kristen Gardner striking out the first eight batters she faced in the second game. She finished with 10 in four innings, as Kaitlin Lee mopped up as Gulf Coast improved to 22-2, 6-2 MACJC.
"We pitched well," Gulf Coast coach Kenneth Long said. "We hit some hard balls. The pitching was a little slower than what we accustomed to, but we stayed focused."
Gulf Coast finishes off a quick road trip Saturday when the Lady Bulldogs play at Holmes. The doubleheader starts at 1 p.m.
After the leadoff batter reached on a bunt single, Keehn (6-0) struck out six in her four innings of work. Coahoma (0-16, 0-8) got its only other baserunner via error. She threw 43 pitches, 38 for strikes. Elmore struck out one while facing three batters.
In the second game, Gardner (6-1) gave up a third inning walk and two fourth-inning singles. Coahoma didn't get a runner past second all day.
Deborah Elmore finished the day 3-for-5 with a double, triple, home run and six RBI. Brittany Cooley had four hits, and Izzy Werdann drove in four runs with three hits, including a double and a triple.
Lexie Mathis drove in three runs for the Lady Bulldogs.
