MGCCC jumps to No. 2 in national poll
PERKINSTON – Mississippi Gulf Coast jumped up to No. 2 in the Marucci Sports NJCAA DII Softball Poll released Wednesday.
The Bulldogs, who improved to 20-2 after a pair of wins at Hinds last week, leaped up five spots from the previous poll.
They are one of three MACJC schools and four Region 23 teams in the top five. LSU Eunice is ranked first, with East Central third and Jones County fifth.
Gulf Coast's Lexie Mathis is tied for third in Division II with nine home runs, and her 32 RBI tie her for sixth. Kaitlin Lee has 10 wins to tie for sixth, with her 0.52 ERA ranking second among pitchers with 25-plus innings pitched.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action Friday at Coahoma and Saturday at Holmes.
They return to Ross-Smith Field in Perkinston on March 25 when Meridian visits.
