Bulldogs blow away field at Coyote Classic

Mississippi Gulf Coast completed a commanding performance at the Coyote Classic on Saturday, picking up two more shutout wins.

The Bulldogs beat Motlow State 9-0 in six innings and closed things out with a 7-0 victory over Lamar State-Port Arthur. Gulf Coast improved to 9-2 after beating four teams 30-0 in Gulf Shores, Ala.

In the win over Motlow State, McKenzie Smith (Fr., St. Amant, La./Prairieville) and Breyona Tanner (Fr., Hurley/East Central) combined for a three-hitter. Smith had four strikeouts in her three innings, and Tanner allowed just one hit and a walk.

Lexi Patterson (Fr., Ackerman/Choctaw County) had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs. Kam Jordan (Fr., Brandon/Brandon) tripled in a run, and Baleigh Tullos (So., Hurley/East Central) had a double and an RBI.

Motlow State is 0-7.

Patterson delivered three more hits against Lamar State, driving in a run. Kailee Lawson (Fr., Hurley/East Central) had two doubles, and Tullos had two hits and two RBI.

Gabby Smith (Fr., Perkinston/Harrison Central) threw a four-hitter, striking out six with one walk. She also aided her cause at the plate with two hits. 

Lamar State, which beat No. 7 Johnson County on Friday, is 1-7.

Patterson batted .583 with two doubles and four RBI on the weekend, and Tullos hit .571 with two doubles, a triple and seven RBI. Tanner went 2-0, allowing three hits in 10 innings.

The Bulldogs play four games in Panama City, Fla., on Feb. 27-28. They'll play a doubleheader that Friday against Gulf Coast State starting at 4 p.m., The following day, they play Snead State at 10 a.m., followed by another game against Gulf Coast State at 3 p.m.
