No. 24 Mississippi Gulf Coast made the short trip to Poplarville on Tuesday to play the nation's top-ranked team, and the Bulldogs dropped a pair of one-run games at Pearl River.

The Wildcats won 1-0 and 4-3.

Breyona Tanner (Fr., Hurley/East Central) allowed just one run on four hits in the opener, striking out two. PRCC got its run in the first inning and held the Bulldogs to a seventh-inning single by Kinsey Cochran (So., Hurley/East Central).

Gabby Smith (Fr., Perkinston/Harrison Central) also threw a four-hitter, striking out six in the second game.

The Bulldogs trailed 4-0 after four, but Lexi Patterson (Fr., Ackerman/Choctaw County) led off the fifth with a solo homer. Natalie Jones (So., Lucedale/George County) singled in another run with two outs, and Baleigh Tullos (So., Hurley/East Central) scored on a wild pitch.

They couldn't get another run in and stranded the bases loaded after three one-out walks in the sixth.
