No. 22 Bulldogs drop 2 at Decatur

No. 22 Mississippi Gulf Coast dropped a pair of road games Wednesday, losing to East Central. In both games, the Bulldogs had the tying or winning run at the plate in the seventh inning.

East Central won 6-3 and 4-2 in Decatur.

The Bulldogs scored twice in the first inning of the opener. Kevionna Myers (Fr., Bassfield/Jefferson Davis) doubled in a run, and Breyona Tanner (Fr., Hurley/East Central) singled in another.

East Central scored three times in the bottom of the inning and led 6-2 headed to the seventh. The Bulldogs got the tying run to home plate after Brooklyn Mitchell (So., Gulfport/St. Patrick) singled in a run, but couldn't get anything else across.

Myers and Tanner had two hits for Gulf Coast.

In Game 2, the Bulldogs again scored twice in the first when Myers had a two-run single.

East Central (17-10, 4-4 MACCC) got one in the first and one in the third to tie, then took the lead with two in the fifth.

Gulf Coast (16-11, 2-6) loaded the bases in the seventh with one out, but got a pop-up and a strikeout to end the game. Mitchell and Natalie Jones (So., Lucedale/George County) had two hits each, and Jones had a double.

Gulf Coast travels to Clarksdale for a doubleheader at Coahoma on Saturday. First pitch will be at 1 p.m.
