Bulldogs split again in Panama City

Mississippi Gulf Coast left its two-day sojourn to Panama City, Fla., with a 2-2 record after another split Saturday.

The Bulldogs beat Snead State 3-2 in the opener before falling 7-0 to NJCAA Division I Gulf Coast State in the second.

Gulf Coast beat the Parsons led by Caroline Batson (So., Wiggins/Stone) throwing five innings of one-hit ball. She allowed only two unearned runs, yielding to McKenzie Smith (Fr., St. Amant, La./Prairieville), who struck out three for a two-inning save.

Brooklyn Mitchell (So., Gulfport/St. Patrick) homered in the first inning for a 1-0 lead. After Snead State went up 2-1 in the top of the second, Natalie Jones (So., Lucedale/George County) had an RBI single.

Piper Rushing (Fr., D'Iberville/D'Iberville) delivered her second game-winning RBI in the fourth with an RBI groundout. She had a run-scoring double to score the only run in a 1-0 win over Gulf Coast State.

The Bulldogs (11-4) managed just three hits, and their pitchers allowed just two earned runs.

Snead State left Panama City 6-18, and Gulf Coast State is 21-6.

The Bulldogs travel to play Pensacola State on Wednesday in the final pre-conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
