Bulldogs push No. 6 JC to the brink

Mississippi Gulf Coast nearly got a split Tuesday against No. 6 Jones, but the Bulldogs couldn't hold a sixth-inning lead in Ellisville.

The Bulldogs lost the second game 5-4 after dropping the first 10-2 in five innings.

Gulf Coast (19-16, 5-11 MACCC) took a 3-2 lead in the third inning of the second game when Lexi Patterson (Fr., Ackerman/Choctaw County) cleared the bases with a single that forced an error.

Jones tied it up with a home in the bottom of the inning, but Baleigh Tullos (So., Hurley/East Central) led off the fourth with a home run. That margin held until two outs in the sixth when the Bobcats (32-7, 11-3) scored twice.

Gulf Coast got the tying run on base in the seventh but couldn't get her across.

Natalie Jones (So., Lucedale/George County) had two hits for Gulf Coast.

In the first game, Jones scored six in the first and pulled away.

Patterson had a solo home run.

Gulf Coast travels to Mississippi Delta on Friday. First pitch in Moorhead is set for 1 p.m. The games will be streamed at https://www.youtube.com/@MDCCTrojans/streams
