Bulldogs win by 25 over Meridian
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's 84-59 win over Meridian on Monday came despite a couple of remarkable statistics.
The Bulldogs made only one 3-pointer at Dantzler Arena, and they shot a poor 19-of-36 from the free-throw line.
"We did a lot of good stuff," Gulf Coast coach Owen Miller said. "Defensively, we've made a big jump this past week, especially playing gaps. We didn't shoot the ball well but were still able to score. We got a lot of good play from a lot of guys, and I thought our depth was a big factor in the game."
Duran Parish (So., Biloxi/Biloxi) led the Bulldogs with 19 points, and Matthew Hinton (So., Atlanta, Ga./Dutchtown) had his best game at Perk with a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double.
King George (Fr., Olive Branch/Olive Branch) had 13 points, and Jaron LeMelle (Fr., Birmingham, Ala./Langston Hughes) added 10.
Gulf Coast held Meridian (2-1) to 24 points in the first half on the way to a 16-point lead.
"(The press) gave them a lot of trouble," Miller said. "We got a couple 10-second calls. They got a little tired as well, and our depth played a big part of the game."
The Bulldogs play archrival Pearl River on Thursday in a non-conference game in Poplarville. The game will be streamed at https://prccmedia.com/watchlive/gold/.
