Bulldogs fall at Summit
Mississippi Gulf Coast couldn't hold a seven-point lead with 100 seconds left Tuesday night at Summit, falling 73-72.
Duran Parish (So., Biloxi/Biloxi) led the Bulldogs with 23 points, and Za'Kariyea Hamilton (So., Jackson/Clinton) had 15.
The Bulldogs are 14-4, 1-2 in the MACCC. They host Hinds on Thursday at Dantzler Arena. Tipoff at Perk is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Gulf Coast scored the first eight points of the game, holding SMCC scoreless for more than five minutes. The Bears tied it up at 18 five minutes later, but the Bulldogs took a 32-29 lead into the locker room.
Hamilton helped spark an 11-2 run, which erased a two-point deficit with five minutes left. He drove to tie the game, then answered two Bears free throws with a left-wing 3-pointer. Hamilton put back a miss with 3:04 left for a 68-65 lead, and Cledarius Ross (Fr., Pascagoula/Pascagoula) hit a shot in the lane for a five-point cushion.
Duran Parish (So., Biloxi/Biloxi) made two free throws with 1:46 left for a 72-65 lead, but Gulf Coast wouldn't score the rest of the way.
Southwest improves 8-10, 2-2.
