Bulldogs win 7th straight
PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast rolled to its seventh straight victory Monday, pulling away for a 101-68 non-conference win against East Central.
The Bulldogs used their suffocating press to raise the tempo and got into the Warriors' legs late.
"Defensively, we had 42 deflections, which is a season high," Gulf Coast coach Owen Miller said. "We switched a lot of screens tonight, which we hadn't done in the past. We took the scouting report and executed."
Four Bulldogs were in double digits, led by Duran Parish (So., Biloxi/Biloxi), who had 26. He leads the MACCC at 24.5 points per game. Maddox Noblitt (Fr., Ocean Springs/Ocean Springs) had 20 for the second straight game.
Gulf Coast (8-1) led 51-40 at the break, matching the biggest lead in the first half. The Bulldogs used an early 11-2 run to push the advantage to 20.
"We were balanced offensively and made free throws," Miller said. "We created 32 turnovers, as well, so I thought our press was really good for us. Our depth, I thought they got tired the last 10 minutes of the second half."
Gulf Coast closed on a 28-9 run to break 100 for the second game in a row and fifth on the season.
Za'Kariyea Hamilton (So., Jackson/Clinton) and King George (Fr., Olive Branch/Olive Branch) had 13 each.
East Central is 2-7.
Gulf Coast plays at home again on Wednesday when the University of Mobile JV visits. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. The game will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch.
