Bulldogs lose at home

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast couldn't get its offense going Thursday night, dropping it first game in MACCC play at a packed Dantzler Arena.

No. 20 Jones defeated the Bulldogs 81-75, holding Gulf Coast to under 39 percent shooting from the floor.

MGCCC is now 14-3, while Jones improves to 13-5.

King George (Fr., Olive Branch/Olive Branch) registered a double-double for Gulf Coast, scoring 14 points with 15 rebounds. Jaron LeMelle (Fr., Birmingham, Ala./Langston Hughes) had 12 points, and Za'Kariyea Hamilton (So., Jackson/Clinton) added 11 with seven rebounds. Maddox Noblitt (Fr., Ocean Springs/Ocean Springs) scored 10.

Gulf Coast trailed by 12 midway through the first half but rallied to go into halftime tied at 33.

A dunk by Matthew Hinton (So., Atlanta, Ga./Dutchtown) with 6:54 left got the crowd on its feet and the Bulldogs within 65-64, but Jones was able to put together an 8-1 run to pull away.

Gulf Coast travels to Summit on Tuesday to play Southwest Mississippi. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
